Here’s a post we’ve thought long and hard about. After years of creating tours for visitors at Evan Evans, we’ve realised that there are some experiences you simply can’t miss out on if you’re visiting the UK.
You might say they were trip-defining experiences – the sights and activities representing the best of what the UK has to offer. Our job is to ensure our guests don’t miss out on these once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.
The question, though, is what should be on that list. With so many fantastic things to do and see it’s tough to render the list down to just ten items. However, if we’re going to give people the best experiences the UK offers, we need to be unrelenting. So here it is, the UK’s 10 unmissable experiences. If you do nothing else, you simply have to do these. Let’s dive in.
Visit Stonehenge
Stonehenge has everything you could possibly want in a travel experience – beautiful landscapes, fascinating facts, a rich heritage and the feeling that you’ll never see it’s like again. It’s a simply astonishing trip.
See Edinburgh Castle
Looking up at Edinburgh Castle for the first time is like being in a fairytale. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience. And, whilst you’re there, make sure you check out the local whiskies, too.
Walk into The Natural History Museum
I have so many wonderful memories of the NHM that I feel truly sorry when somebody misses out on the opportunity to visit. It’s not only a fascinating and educational museum but one of the most beautiful buildings in the UK. Visit this winter, and you’ll even have the chance to go ice skating outside.
Hike the Jurassic Coast, Dorset
With Corfe Castle, Durdle Door and Man-of-War Bay as some of its key sites, Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is unequivocally one of the country’s most beautiful coastal regions. Even if hiking isn’t your thing, you owe yourself the chance to take a short walk through this beautiful landscape.
Explore Parliament Square, London
Parliament Square has to be the most magical of all the London locations we know and love. Standing outside Westminster Abbey, listening to the sound of Big Ben chiming, you will truly feel like you’ve arrived in the UK.
Visit the Roman Baths
The UK’s history, heritage and culture converge in this humble city in Somerset. Bath’s most famous attraction is one of the most interesting sites you’ll visit, and the city itself is just breathtaking.
Marvel at The Lake District
This beautiful mountainous region is worth the trip from London. If you’re outdoors and love activities like hiking, climbing, cycling and kayaking, then the Lake District should be on the top of your list.
Feel the magic at Harry Potter Studios
I wasn’t that much of a Harry Potter fan when I first visited the Harry Potter Studio Tour London. This trip changed my mind. Walking amongst the sets and costumes of the movies really helps you to appreciate the magic and wonder that went into production. It’s a wonderful experience whether you’re a fan or not.
Cross Tower Bridge
Perhaps the quintessential London experience and one that everybody should do at least once – walking across Tower Bridge is something you’ll remember for a long time.
Eat a roast dinner and drink a pint
You’re going to need some rest after all that exploring. The best way to do that here in the UK is with a beautiful roast dinner and a pint of locally brewed beer. We highly recommend the Harwood Arms in West Brompton for the city’s best.
If that’s still not enough to slake your thirst for adventure, take a look at our huge range of tours around the UK from London. It’s the best way to discover your own unmissable experiences.
